LUMINE Sustainability Month

LUMINE JAPAN, a group company of East Japan Railway Company, manages representative commercial facilities like retail space, hotels and trading companies that are directly connected to major railway stations around Tokyo. You may ask, how does a company this scale keep up to sustainability efforts?

In March 2021, LUMINE Co., Ltd. and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. started introducing carbon neutral city gas at LUMINE OMIYA, for the first time in the shopping center industry in Japan, which aims at having net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. Read more in the press release here.

As a major group company, inspiring and introducing change would be the best step by creating a life value to influence many that would follow. Hence, we created the philosophy of "value people can find in their daily lives".

Since the start of LUMINE SINGAPORE, we have adopted this philosophy by partnering with brands that  pursue environmentally aware business activities.

Check out some of these brands and their specialty:

Based on the concept of not disposing surplus materials, Sur accessories are manufactured in an optical manufacturing factory in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture with cellulose acetate made from plants commonly used for spectacle frames. Sur's brand belief is centered around sustainability, craftsmanship and creating understated simple and natural design for daily wear, just like glasses.

Food Paper is a stationary brand from Japan that makes all its products from vegetable or fruit. The making process is very traditional, like how Washi is originally made by hand, to process still edible but to be disposed vegetable or fruit parts and give them a new life. Combating food wastage, Food Paper is a movement to create new type of paper. Built on creating new possibilities by contributing back to the environment and to our society.

Graye is a menswear brand that advocates for modern zen lifestyle, infusing sustainable fashion concepts into their designs. Made from regenerated cellulose fibre, these cupro tee has short-sleeves, modern and relaxed silhouette with asymmetrical dropped shoulders and a simple round neckline.

Bamboo Straw Girl is a homegrown Singapore social enterprise that aims to start eco conversations with a range of low-impact and all natural lifestyle products.
